Two formats have been used for the Chairmans Shield. Firstly was anybody knocked out in the first round of another club competition would automatically qualify for an entry in the Chairmans Shield. In later years, anyone who did not play an 'A' game for the club (W&W Premier, Oldbury 'A', Smethwick 'A') could enter the competition at the end of the season.
